We thought Ospreys were the raptor we saw at high alpine lakes, not our forest pond in the foothills, but we were wrong. The Osprey, one of the largest birds of prey with nearly a 6-foot wingspan, was fishing. Live fish accounting for about 99 percent of its diet. This photo almost looks like a painting, unintentionally. I shot fast at high shutter speed while the Osprey circled and then headed out over the treeline. Pandion haliaetus

  • The photo does look like a painting, and the blurred effect makes the bird look almost purple. I especially love the background: left-to-right lines, against which the bird flies right to left. Striking!
